Get To Know The New Art Teacher!!!

By: Jakob Santana

I interviewed Ms. Martinez, so that people that want to get to know more about the new Art teacher can ad all that good stuff.

Jakob: Why are you a teacher?

Ms. Martinez: I am a teacher because I love to inspire my students. Also, being around young people every day helps me remain knowledgeable about current trends and ideas. And helps break down barriers.

Jakob:What are some things about your art background?

Ms. Martinez: I graduated from UTSA with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Photography in 2003.  Since 2008, I’ve been focusing more on my drawing skills, marketing, and less on my photography. I now have an online store where I sell merchandise with my art work on t-shirts, hoodies, posters, iGear, and more!

Jakob: What is some stuff your classes will be doing this year?

Ms. Martinez: My classes will emphasize technical skill, design, composition, problem solving, conceptual thinking, creativity, art history, presentation, safety, and visual culture. They will also explore a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms.  For example, My Studio Art Students will be working with non-traditional mediums, such as duct tape, card board and found objects to form their works of art.

Jakob: What’s your favorite color?

Ms. Martinez: O.D. Green

Jakob: What types of art do you like?

Ms. Martinez: I appreciate all types of art, however, I find myself gravitating towards Gothic and Dark Lowbrow Art these days.

Jakob: What’s your favorite food?

Ms. Martinez: Chicken Pho & Spring Rolls

Jakob:How did you hear about SASIC?

Ms. Martinez: I received an e-mail from an acquaintance saying that SASIC was in need of an Art Teacher.

Jakob:What kind of music do you like?

Ms. Martinez: Just like art I appreciate all kinds of music. My iPod is filled with eclectic styles of music. So, it is hard to pick a favorite.
The following are just a few of the artists on my iPod:
Gogol Bordello, Faith no More, Portishead, the Melvins, Hank Williams Sr., Hank Williams III, the Pogues and many more
